Tell us about yourself and what you do?
I am the luckiest mama to four gorgeous happy children in west London, who gets to run and grow a business that she loves, working with kids’ art every day.
How did Doodle Nest come to fruition?
My children and their creativity were the main inspiration behind Doodle Nest. When they were younger they were unbelievably prolific - our kitchen walls were completely covered and our drawers were overflowing with art. I wanted to save all their adorable creations but soon the clutter was out of control and I knew it was only a matter of time before pieces would start getting damaged or lost. I set out to find a stylish solution to celebrate and preserve all their work and that’s when the idea of Doodle Nest was born.
Tell us about how Doodle Nest works?
We wanted to take all the hassle away from parents and make the customer experience as easy as possible: 1. Order your box online. 2. Fill it with your favourite art. 3. We arrange your free box collection. 4. Approve your digital proof. 5. Enjoy your book.
The job on our end however is a completely different story. Our products are true labours of love and we really pride ourselves on their amazing quality. I don’t mean to get too technical but an unbelievable amount of work goes into each book. First our design team professionally photograph and edit each individual piece, enhancing colours and eliminating any unwanted marks, or backgrounds. The design is then meticulously laid-out using clever compositions to ensure that each double-paged spread is as striking as possible. We use only the best materials and methods including beautiful matte paper and premium printing in order to really elevate the child’s work. The result is a truly stunning, museum-quality book that will surely steal the show on even the most impressive coffee table.
Being creative with kids is so important. How do you encourage creativity at home with your children?
Unlike with screens there is no cap on creative play in our house and no shortage of art supplies either. It also helps that my kids see how happy it makes me to work with and be surrounded by kids’ art all day. One of my favourite things about our books is that they encourage kids to be more creative through art. I can’t tell you how proud our little customers feel when they see that they've been published in their very own coffee table book. Our kids are growing up in such a fast-paced, digital and competitive world and I think it’s incredibly important to help them find a release. The beauty of art is that there is no right or wrong and it's the perfect outlet for children to feel completely free to express themselves.
We love the freedom of creativity through art but also through dressing! Tell us about your approach when it comes to dressing your children. How much is it up to them, what they get to wear?
The days of dressing my older three children are long gone. They are 13, 12 and 10 and I’m lucky if they let me choose their footwear for a photo on Christmas day. It’s not all a lost cause though as I also have an 18 month old that’s pretty relaxed about life. He’s still very happy to be dressed head to toe by his mama. I’m enjoying it while it lasts though as I know my days are numbered.
What are your favourite items from the La Coqueta AW18 collection?
There are so many beautiful things to choose from but I do have a serious thing for knitwear so I think I’m going to have to go with the Goyo Boy Jumper in the blue stripe or the Brio Boy Jumper in grey. My little one doesn’t know it yet but he is going to be living in them this winter. Shop girl knitwear. Shop Boy knitwear. Shop baby knitwear. Follow the Doodle Nest on Instagram!
