We spoke with Judy Green of Judy Green’s Garden Store, located right near our Hampstead boutique! Our Creative Director is a regular customer herself, so we wanted to learn more about Judy and how her charming Garden Store has grown over the years.
When did you first have the idea to open your store? How did it all come to life?
After doing a garden design course I decided to open our shop. It was a very exciting time for me as there were very few shops around as I had envisioned the garden store to evolve.
How has your business evolved and grown throughout the years?
We started out as a potting shed, a place to buy plants and pots for indoor and outdoor living! Then we began getting a huge amount of publicity and things took off from there.
What is your process for constantly coming up with new products and ideas for your shop?
I started going to Paris and Belgium to buy and quite quickly found there is a lot of talent around, especially here in the UK! People are always telling us they find things in our shop that they don’t see anywhere else.
What are the most popular gifts people purchase from your store?
We are very fortunate to have built a lovely customer base. About 30% of our sales are plants, and the containers to go with them. The rest are accessories such as hats, scarves, and bags, and other items of interest. Our best seller of all time was a Burmese terracotta BBQ (unfortunately not available anymore) we had an enormous amount of publicity, and the phone didn’t stop ringing for a year or so.
How did you decide upon Hampstead for your shop’s location?
Hampstead was always my first choice and I was lucky enough to find #11 Flask Walk was available! I love being in Hampstead, and even with all its changes is still a lovely place to spend time in. Twenty-four years later, I’m still here! What a journey it’s been.
How did you first discover La Coqueta, and what is your favourite thing about the brand?
I have loved La Coqueta since it first opened. I have two granddaughters and they look delicious in all that I have bought, and my two daughters-in-law agree!
